You’re one Step Away From The Racetrack!

Sydney Motorsport offers students the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in an industrial engineering setting. Graduates from our team stand out from other students as they learn skills from liaising clients to design solutions that considers cost, resources, and its ability to be machined.

The Sydney Motorsport Team is consists of the Business and EngineeringTeams. The Business Team manages the events, our finance, IT, sponsorship and marketing of Sydney Motorsport while the Engineering Team manages after the design and build of the FSAE vehicle, which includes aerodynamics, drive train, engine and suspension.

Dynamics

The Dynamics department works to optimise the vehicle’s aerodynamic and suspension performance, whilst validating design choices through simulations and track testing.

Aerodynamics

This team designs and validates the aerodynamics package including the floor, sidepods, and front and rear wings. The Aero team also works closely with the Chassis team to optimise the aerodynamic performance of the primary structure.

Simulations and Testing

Simulations and Testing utilises theoretical and physical validation techniques to inform design decisions and targets across the whole team. This section is also focused on tuning and testing to maximise the collection of valuable track data.

Suspension

The Suspension team is focused on the design and validation of the suspension geometry. By working closely with the Chassis Team and Sims & Testing Team, Suspension works to optimise the dynamic performance of the car.

Structures

The Structures department engineers the primary structure and all critical components by employing physical and theoretical testing methods to maximise the structural integrity of the vehicle.

Chassis

The Chassis section is responsible for the design of the primary structure with strong consideration of aerodynamic and suspension performance. This team works hard conducting physical tests to select strong and lightweight materials for monocoque manufacture.

Driver Controls

This team designs and validates the steering assembly, pedal box, and brake system. Driver Controls also analyses ergonomic data to ensure the vehicle can extract the best performance from all drivers whilst keeping them safe at all times.

General Structures

General Structures is responsible for the design, testing and manufacture of all structural elements in the vehicle. Ranging from suspension arms to wing mounts, this team produces many of the critical components of the car.

Electrical

The Electrical department designs both the high and low voltage electrical systems of the vehicle, with a key focus on the new electric powertrain currently in development.

HIGH VOLTAGE

The High Voltage section is responsible for the design and validation of the EV powertrain and power source. It works to maximise motor performance and energy efficiency, as well as streamline interfacing between the high voltage and low voltage systems.

LOW VOLTAGE

The Low Voltage team designs and develops the low voltage wiring harness for the car which manages the vehicle's safety systems, driver input systems, and datalogging devices. much of this is custom designed and manufactured by the team.

Business

The Business department is responsible for the development and maintenance of Sydney Motorsport brand, as well as sponsorship and sponsor relationships, team finances and event management.

OPERATIONS

The operations team is integral to our outreach and expansion of our team with external sponsors alongside upkeep of all budgeting and costing within the team. They ensure the consistent engagement of existing and new sponsors, negotiating and communicating with engineering and business sponsors.

Marketing

Marketing creates and delivers marketing material throughout the year, giving insight into the team and competition. They liaise with the sponsors, executives and business team to deliver material for inter team and external events.

Events/Logistics

Events and logistics are a key component in organising testing, competition logistics and team bonding events. This includes planning an Events Roadmap in conjunction with the sponsorship team and liaising directly with the Workshop manager to organise and manage testing trips.
