 WHO ARE WE?

Founded in 2001, Sydney Motorsport is a student run racing team representing the University of Sydney where we design, build and test a small open wheel race car for the annual Australasian Formula student competition run by the Society of Automative Engineers (SAE).

This competition hosts a range of dynamic events to assess the car’s performance, with an additional focus on the performance of the Business department through several static events.

Our team consists of business and engineering departments with our members from a variety of disciplines. From Law to Civil, our team is united by one thing - our passion for Motorsports.

DESIGN, MAKE, TEST, REPEAT.

Each year, the engineering departments utilise advanced computer aided design and simulation programs to design our car for the competition. Students then use these programs to validate the strength and performance of all critical components.

The Sydney Motorsport team is privileged to have our own workshop, fitted out with a CNC machine, conventional mill, several lathes, and other power tools to help us realise our visions. Members get exclusive access to these tools, and under the supervision of experienced technicians they develop practical skills that are not offered anywhere else on campus.

Students of Sydney Motorsport's business department have the opportunity to manage the finances of this large and complex project, organise social and formal presentation events, and run an expanding marketing program.

INTERESTED IN JOINING?

Being a member of the Sydney Motorsport Team has numerous benefits. On our team, you will be part of a growing community that has exclusive access to powerful software, advanced machinery, and hundreds of technical papers. You will also have the chance to practice and refine machining techniques, composite fabrication methods, and additive manufacturing (3D printing) in our workshops, under the guidance of our executive team and section leads.

Furthermore, the technical and soft skills that members can develop enables students to follow pathways into other industries. Many Sydney Motorsport alum have been able to take the skills they have learnt in their time in SAE directly to their internship or graduate role.

Also note that for engineering students, you can acquire 60+ automatic PEP hours by completing jobs for the team. Finally, whilst our team works hard on the project year round, we also hold many fun social events such as Hyper Karting and pub trivia nights!

Whether you're interested in design, manufacturing, or business, there's a valuable role for you at Sydney Motorsport. Click the link below to fill out the form, or send us an email to get started!
